Arsenal Linked With Signing ‘Croatian Erling Haaland’ This Summer: Understanding Why Arsenal Are Interested In His Signature

Roko Simic, Arsenal

Arsenal have been linked with several strikers since January and Roko Simic is another name that has emerged recently. According to GOAL, Roko Simic was named among the top 50 wonder kids in football. The 18-year-old forward is currently on loan to FC Liefering from RB Salzburg and is called the ‘Croatian Erling Haaland’ by some.

Simic is just 18 years of age and is regularly involved with the senior team of his club. Although he is on a loan spell, Salzburg might consider keeping him when he returns. Along with Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Spanish giants Real Madrid are also monitoring the youngster’s growth since this season.

Arsenal are struggling in the striking position currently. Aubameyang left the north London club for a move to Barcelona. Whereas, both Lacazette and Nketiah have contracts expiring in four months with no extension agreed whatsoever. The Gunners have to recruit at least two strikers as there is a high possibility that Arsenal will be playing in the Champions League next season.

Why Does Arsenal Want To Sign Roko Simic?

Roko Simic is a very strong, powerful physical character who has drawn comparisons to Erling Haaland and Dusan Vlahovic for his playing style. Arsenal pushed hard to sign the Serbian Dusan Vlahovic in January which could have solved a major part of their striking issues. However, they failed in that pursuit and are now looking at an even younger version of the Serbian international.

Arsenal are considering signing two strikers in the transfer window. A combination of an experienced striker along with a striker with a whole lot of potential would be ideal for the Gunners. Roko Simic is still very young and has a lot to learn and improve. Yes, he has the physical help to do it since he stands tall at 6 feet 3 inches.

In just 16 league appearances, he has found the back of the net 12 times (stats via whoscored). He is also a dangerous aerial threat, something that the Gunners have been missing since Olivier Giroud’s departure. Moreover, Roko Simic is the son of the two-time Champions League winner with AC Milan, Dario Simic. Roko can learn a lot from his father and may have a head start in the competition amongst the youngsters.

Should Arsenal Push Hard To Make Sure That Simic Ends Up In London?

Roko Simic has had a fantastic goal-scoring record at a tender age. However, Arsenal will be competing at the highest level in all competitions next season. The Gunners will possibly push hard to win trophies and they will certainly need the depth in the attacking department. As reported, Arsenal wants to sign two strikers in the summer transfer window.

Arsenal will possibly be playing the UEFA Champions League next season. Therefore, they will need top-quality players who will deliver the goods. If Arsenal sign an in-form striker but gets injured or suspended in the crucial part of the season, they will need a good backup to cover for the number 9 position. However, it is doubtful that Roko Simic can do that. Arsenal needs strikers who will guarantee them goals right away.

If Arsenal does have some extra funds left, they could certainly go for the teenage sensation. Roko Simic will be an excellent signing for Arsenal in the long term. However, Arsenal are now looking for players who can offer them quick success by the year-end of 2023. Simic is still in the developing phase and may not be able to offer Arsenal that quick success. This signing could fall apart if Simic fails to keep up to his standards and might end somewhere else after just one or two seasons.
