Veretout, Fraser Or Carrasco? | Number Of Players Linked With A Move To Arsenal But Whom Will Arsenal Actually Add To The Squad For Upcoming Season

Arsenal, gunners transfer news, Arsenal transfer window, transfer window

Arsenal transfer targets aren’t exactly jumping through hoops to come to the Emirates. Despite the assurances from inside the Emirates that the club is still highly regarded and able to attract talent in the transfer window, it’s starting to look as if that statement may have been somewhat premature.

It appears that recently, everyone has found an excuse when it comes to transferring to Arsenal FC. It’s widely known that the Arsenal conduct their transfer like two spies exchanging a secret package in a dimly lit street but the comments from a host of players and the odd agent, suggest that there is an element of doubt about joining a team without Champions league football.

In the case of Jordan Veretout, who is allegedly on Arsenal and Unai Emery’s shopping list, the task fell to his agent to explain his clients situation. Mario Giuffredi, on behalf of Veretout, insisted that the Frenchman’s future is yet to be decided and that his future at Fiorentina could be in jeopardy, thus leaving the door open for an impoverished Arsenal.

Giuffredi cleared up the matter by saying,

“The problem is they [Fiorentina] don’t currently have a director of sport, so I don’t know who to communicate with.”

Erm, I don’t want to be a rain cloud at the parade but Arsenal haven’t got one either. Not that this link to the North London club has any weight behind it in the first place.

Ryan Fraser who assisted 14 times in the Premier League for Bournemouth was equally unclear when he said of his future.

“I don’t know myself so there’s no point thinking about it, wherever I’ll be, I’ll be. I don’t know what is happening. I’m not just saying that.”

Which either implies Arsenal haven’t made an initial offer or that the player is keeping his options open. Then, appearing through the fog of confusion came Samuel Umtiti, who, if he hadn’t already been ruled out due to his price tag, decided to shoot down the deal himself

“I have a contract and I’m happy at Barcelona, I had a difficult season, but I don’t want to go to other clubs. Next season I’ll be at Barca.”

That’s that then, thanks for the brutal honesty.

Saint-Etienne’s teenage defender William Saliba, was obviously so impressed by the suggestion at joining Arsenal that he and his agent jumped on the first available plane and were seen in Manchester. Perhaps it was a booking error and they overshot Heathrow or more likely that the youngster is in talks with United.

Sampdoria target Joachim Andersen simply never mentioned a move to Arsenal, preferring to reference Marco Giampaolo should he leave Sampdoria to succeed Gennaro Guttuso at Milan.

“I haven’t read much in media about Giampaolo leaving, but I’m happy for him.”

“I’m also a little disappointed as he’s leaving. If I dream of joining him? I can’t respond to that and I don’t know my future, but Milan is a great club.”

he told EkstraBladet.

That’s how you do it, just don’t mention the club that you’ve no intention of joining. Both Joachim Andersen and Dennis Praet were alleged to have been on Arsenal and Emery’s radar and the London club were said to have placed a €42m bid for the duo but Sampdoria want €49m. So, for the moment at least, it looks like the deal is on ice, especially as Andersen doesn’t seem to want to go.

Someone who can’t be accused of lacking in self confidence is Belgium winger Yannick Carrasco. Speculation continues that he may well be on his way to Arsenal, although he hasn’t confirmed anything lately apart from reminding his current club, Dalian Yifang of his self worth,

I am the most important player in the club, but I hope the chairman understands me.”

I’m sure he can’t wait to open the door to show you the way out !
