The Red Devils Earn A Face-saving 1-1 draw with the Bees In The Premier League | Three Takeaways From The Brentford Vs Man United Game

Brentford vs Manchester United

Manchester United drew 1-1 with Brentford this weekend at the Gtech Community Stadium in the Premier League. The Red Devils remain sixth in the league table with 48 points from 29 matches, which is still eight less than the tally of Tottenham Hotspur, who are in fifth place.

United came up with another disappointing performance, as they were comprehensively second-best against a team that finds themselves in the 15th position with 27 points from 30 matches. United’s chances of finishing inside the top-four thus received a big blow. Let us now take a look at three takeaways from the match:

1. Brentford Were the More Enterprising Side on the Day:

Brentford dominated the match for the most part and frequently took shots at the goal. They had as many as 31 shots against Manchester United, in addition to the 14 corners earned. They also hit the woodwork twice and were a bit unlucky to miss out on all three points.

In comparison, United only managed to have 11 attempts. The Red Devils dominated the ball-possession marginally with 53% of it in the match. Brentford also had the better share of exchanges in the midfield and managed to play the ball quite a few times to Ivan Toney, their center-forward.

2. There was a Lot of Drama in the Dying Minutes of the Match:

Although Brentford dominated the match, it was Manchester United who managed to break the deadlock. Mason Mount, who made an appearance for the Red Devils after a long time, scored with a shot from inside the opposition penalty box.

However, United’s joy was short-lived, as the Bees scored minutes later. Brentford were visibly not satisfied with a draw and pressed for a win. That was, however, not to be and the two teams split points in the end.

3. Manchester United Have a Couple of Key Clashes Coming up:

Erik ten Hag’s men will take on Chelsea and Liverpool next in the space of three days in the first week of April. Those matches should potentially decide their fate for the season. Should United lose in either of those matches, they will find it very difficult to finish inside the top four.

Although Chelsea are not in good form, they could prove to be a tricky opposition. Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool will have revenge in mind when they travel to Old Trafford on 7th April. It remains to be seen how the Red Devils rise up to the challenge. One can safely assume that the task is not going to be easy for them.
