West Ham United are reportedly lining up a bid for Man United defender Harry Maguire in the upcoming summer transfer window. The Hammers boss David Moyes is looking to add an experienced defender with leadership qualities to his team.
Moyes had also felt that his squad lacked a man who could be aerially dominant and make effective headers. To fill the void, the Scotsman had targeted the England center-back and wanted to bring him to the London Stadium last summer only. But, the deal didn’t work out because United wanted more than what the Hammers were offering.
Since then, the center-back has been a key player for the Red Devils. Overall, the 31-year-old defender has made 199 appearances since joining Manchester United.
Nevertheless, Maguire is not a preferred defender under manager Erik ten Hag. He has played 24 games this season (stats via Transfermarkt) owing to injuries to other center-backs and there are high chances of him leaving Old Trafford this summer. However, there is still one year left on his contract with the club. The Englishman joined Manchester United in 2019 for a record fee of £85 million.
It has been reportedly said that the Man United boss is preparing to sell the 31-year-old defender in the upcoming transfer window after the Euros. According to The Sun, West Ham are preparing a £15 million offer to secure the signing of Harry Maguire. The West Ham boss is hopeful that United will accept this offer.
West Ham and Harry Maguire Transfer Saga
It has been reported that the Hammers came very close to signing the defender last summer. With no sign that United will extend the contract of the Englishman defender, it is likely that Maguire will leave Old Trafford soon. West Ham are the only potential suitors on the horizon.
Also, Moyes is a huge admirer of Maguire and wants the former Leicester City defender in his team by all means. If the London club offers a two to three-year contract to the defender then it would be great for his playing career.

However, the 31-year-old joining the Hammers is only possible if Davis Moyes continues to be in charge of the club. There is no certainty of Moyes’s stay after this season and in that case, the transfer might not materialize again. The new manager will make his own decisions and Maguire may end up being not his preferred choice.
