According to reports from the Daily Record, Scott McTominay has earned himself a new long-term contract at Manchester United. Just last summer, he was linked with a move to West Ham United, close to drawing the curtains on his Manchester United career. McTominay was open to leaving Old Trafford as well in the hunt for more playing time.

In just a couple of months, though, he has fought his way back into the team after being labeled deadwood. Injuries early on in the season saw Mason Mount, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen being forced to sit out, paving the way for McTominay to earn his spot back at Manchester United.
The Scotsman did nothing but impress the United boss, Erik ten Hag since his return to the side, raking up 9 goals and 3 assists, with only Rasmus Hojlund boasting more goals across all competitions in the Manchester United squad this season (stats via Transfermarkt). The first two of his goals came in a memorable late comeback win against Brentford, only highlighting his impact this season even more.
The 27-year-old has always been in and around the goals whenever needed for Manchester United this season. McTominay has seen himself evolve at the club where he has been since he was a child – from a holding midfielder to a box-to-box player, always lurking for opportunities to put the ball in the net.

Scott McTominay epitomizes the tireless work ethic of a soldier in the footballing world. Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho recognized this and invented his own award, ‘Manager’s Player of the Year’, for McTominay in the midfielder’s debut 2017-18 season. This was a token of appreciation from the legendary Portuguese manager for McTominay for going the extra mile.

The New Contract
Scott McTominay could see himself earning £120,000-a-week, which is pretty much double the £60,000-a-week he is currently on. McTominay’s current contract expires in 2025 but the club have an option to extend it further by a year. However, new co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants to tie the Scotsman down as the 27-year-old has already attracted interest from London clubs Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United.

It will be interesting to monitor what role the club will offer to McTominay. Kobbie Mainoo has cemented his spot in the Manchester United midfield after stellar performances. Now, it seems unlikely that Scott McTominay will receive the role of a regular starter at Manchester United.
It remains a question whether he will still consider offers from other clubs for additional playing time or stay put at his boyhood club.
