Official: €38m Rated Fan Favourite Signs New Long-Term Contract With Arsenal, Great News for the Fans

Aaron Ramsdale, new contract

Arsenal have officially announced that goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has penned a new long-term contract with the club. After a stellar season with the North London side, it had become quite obvious that the English club would want to keep the shot-stopper for a longer period.

Aaron Ramsdale joined Arsenal in the summer of 2021 from Sheffield United in a £30 million deal. The deal made the 25-year-old the most expensive goalkeeper in the club’s history and he certainly lived up to his price-tag, being a crucial part of Arsenal’s unexpected title push this season.

The England International has kept 14 clean sheets, which is the joint third-highest, alongside Newcastle’s Nick Pope, in the Premier League this season. The fans took a liking to his aggressive characteristics that he displayed at the start of this campaign.

Arsenal announced via their website that Aaron Ramsdale has signed a new long-term contract with the club. Some reports suggest that the English shot-stopper will earn double the wages from what he was earning before. This is what the player had to say after signing the contract extension:

“To get it after two years, I’m buzzing. It just means I can concentrate and keep my head down, and hopefully after a few more years I’ll get another one and carry on living the dream at the football club.”

It looked like the Gunners had the Premier League title in their bag with 8 points ahead of Manchester City at one point. However, they slipped up in the race, with Man City now being crowned champions. Nevertheless, the 25-year-old’s contributions have won the team many a points and his strong saves have played a role in them securing an unchallenged second position.

Manager Mikel Arteta observed that the Englishman is comfortable using his feet under pressure. The Spaniard then started to rely on him a bit more and gave him more responsibility. Ramsdale was handed the number 1 shirt before entering the 2022/23 season and he has lived up to the expectations.

How has Aaron Ramsdale Become the Perfect Number 1 for Arsenal?

Arsenal were happy with Bernd Leno’s performances when he arrived at the club in 2018. However, he suffered a horrific knee surgery and had to leave the pitch on a stretcher. The Gunners then introduced Emiliano Martinez who is currently one of the best goalkeepers in the world. The Argentine won the 2022 FIFA World Cup, in which he made crucial penalty saves against the Netherlands and also against France in the final.

Despite some excellent displays, the North London side couldn’t guarantee him regular game-time. The Argentinian then decided to join Aston Villa, while Arsenal had set their sights set on Aaron Ramsdale. The 25-year-old wasn’t necessarily a huge player which led to fans having some doubts over this signing.

However, the England international proved his doubters wrong quite quickly. He won everyone’s hearts with countless key saves and soon became a fan favourite. Moreover, his energetic celebrations after the saves got the fans going even more.

The Gunners have certainly found their number 1 for the long-term, although it is always better to have a good backup as he has played the majority of the matches this season. Arsenal will be playing in the Champions League next season and Aaron Ramsdale signing a new contract will be great boost for them.
