The story involving the transfer of Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid to Arsenal simply hasn’t gone away. At first glance, it’s a deal that is almost too good to be true because he will cost at least £45m plus add-ons.
It’s no secret that Partey is the number one target for Arsenal, but I’m hearing that it could actually happen as long as Arsenal don’t try to push their luck on the price. The Gunners have a habit of trying to trim the fat on a deal, but it’s doubtful Atletico Madrid will be willing to operate like a club desperate for cash in some sort of fire sale, that’s more Arsenal’s turf!
From what I understand, the Ghana international has agreed to join the Gunners but it’s now in the hands of the negotiators. Mmm, that doesn’t bode well, does it! Arsenal have a knack of cocking up a deal at the last minute by insisting on a cherry on top, something that has cost them dearly in the past.
If they lean to heavy on Atletico Madrid or try to palm the player off with a substandard wage, it might be game over but for now, we’ll enjoy the prospect of Partey in an Arsenal shirt next season.
There was a rumour that Guendouzi would be part of that deal and another that he wanted to leave the club. The youngster is disappointed for being dropped after his throat grabbing exploits against Brighton and reacted poorly afterward according to sources.
His temperament is causing concern behind the scenes and there is a feeling that his boss now has to reign him in quite sharply or dispense with his services. Arteta has reinforced his expectations to his squad and offered the player an olive branch, but it’s said that it’s now the Frenchman’s decision.
If he cannot act accordingly and expresses a desire to leave, Arsenal will sell to the highest bidder. Guendouzi is worth somewhere around £36m and his contract expires in 2022. It’s apparently “in his court”.
