Manchester United’s Paul Pogba has given a glorifying review about his fellow countryman and Stade Rennais star Eduardo Camavinga. The World Cup-winning midfielder has drawn similarities between the latest United target and PSG star Kylian Mbappe.
Recent reports state that the Red Devils are hugely interested in signing the young Rennes midfielder once their deal for Jadon Sancho is concluded, which seems to be almost done as United announced that a deal has been agreed in principle between the two clubs. The signing will be completed after the player returns from Euro 2020.

Eduardo Camavinga is currently one of the best upcoming talents in Europe and is a target for several top clubs. Solskjaer is looking to bring in a quality central midfielder this summer, and the 18-year-old seems to be the perfect player to fit the role. Meanwhile, West Ham’s Declan Rice is also on his radar.
Stade Rennais are open to transfer talks as the player has only a year left on his current contract and certainly want to extract a huge fee for the future star. Even though United want to sign the player, Camavinga’s preferred destination is PSG.
Despite this, Manchester United have expressed strong interest in securing the young Frenchman and have, reportedly, set up a meeting with the player’s representatives to convince him and bring him to Old Trafford. The Red Devils are willing to spend to get his signature.

Camavinga is a regular starter for Stade Rennais and has already completed two full seasons in the French league. The youngster’s stats in Ligue 1 for the 20/21 season were astounding. He completed 39 first-team appearances, winning 70/111 attempted tackles in the process, higher than any Manchester United player last season, with Fred being the highest at 55. The Frenchman completed 89.5% of his passes and also assisted his team to a sixth-place finish in Ligue 1, while amazing everyone with impressive performances in the Champions League.
The young midfielder has emulated this success on the international stage. He became the youngest player to feature for the France senior team since 1914 and the youngest goal scorer for France in his first start in over a century. He is currently playing for France in the U21 Euro Championship. Camavinga, who played alongside Pogba in the past, hails the influence of the Manchester United player and was quoted by Goal:
“I’m inspired by Paul Pogba; he’s a very good player with great qualities.”
“He proved it in the French team just look at what he did: world champion. But I don’t really like comparisons.”
Meanwhile, Pogba has praised the French wonderkid and has compared him to Kylian Mbappe. During a press conference ahead of a Euro Championship game, Pogba stated the following when reporters asked him for a verdict on the youngster:
“I followed his (Camavinga) matches in Ligue 1, he’s young but he’s like Kylian (Mbappe), you don’t talk to him about age.”
“He already has a maturity, a serenity that I didn’t have at his age, and that a lot of players don’t have.”
“It’s a pleasure to see him put on this jersey, score his first goal, it was beautiful.”
“I only wish him the best and even more, because he has everything to succeed.”
“The future is in his hands.”
“He is also comfortable as a person.”
Receiving a positive verdict from a player like Pogba is good enough to establish one’s credentials. Although France have been eliminated from the UEFA European Championship, Pogba has shown his class with brilliant displays of attacking football. Many pundits have pointed out N’Golo Kante’s supporting role in this success. The same goes for the FIFA World Cup 2018 that France won.
Kante is one of the best central defensive midfielders in the world at present. The Chelsea man’s backing has brought out the best in Pogba and this is what Manchester United are lacking. Pogba needs a defensive midfielder behind him to freely roam the pitch and flourish and Camavinga would be able to provide that reliance.

With Camavinga’s arrival, United will get a boost in the central area. Manchester United need a strong pivot player in the three-man-midfield formation that Solskjaer tends to play. Pogba and Fernandes are versatile midfielders and great attackers, but they need strong support behind them, someone like Camavinga, who is an outstanding tackler and has great pressing techniques coupled with great stamina. The Frenchman can set the tempo of a game and set up a strong base for attacks.
Camavinga’s presence at Old Trafford could bring out Pogba’s excellence that we saw in the Euro Championship. Moreover, the Rennes midfielder’s work rate in the central area could help Bruno save up for more game time. The Portuguese midfielder had a brilliant 20/21 season but was overworked. This was evident from his lack of form in the Euro 2020 Championship. At Manchester United, Camavinga could develop into an excellent midfielder and a driving force for the team.
