Alongside Manchester United, Arsenal has also entered the race to sign Saint-Etienne center-back William Saliba. The 18-year-old, who attracted the likes of Jose Mourinho, could make his way to the Emirates this summer.
William Saliba, who has an impressive 17 appearances in all competitions for the French side, is being watched extensively by Arsenal. Also, there were reports that Arsenal had scouts watching the player in action for Saint-Etienne’s 3-0 win over OGC.
Standing 6’4’’ tall, he would be a perfect fit for the North London side. The teenager’s comparison to Raphael Varane has many European clubs keeping tabs on him, with Arsenal ready to pay €25million for him.
Though he signed a 4-year deal with Saint-Etienne in April, it would be hard for the French side to keep Saliba with many top European clubs coming in for him.

Arsenal finished 5th in the Premier League this season, narrowly missing out the top 4 for a Champions League spot. With 51 goals conceded this season, Unai Emery is keen to bolster up his defense options.
With the agreement to sign 17-year-old Brazilian forward Gabriel Martinelli from Ituano FC already in place, William Saliba could be the next addition. With the departures of Aaron Ramsey, Peter Cech and Danny Welbeck at the end of this season, Emery will be looking for a major revamp in the summer transfer window.
After facing problems in defence for years, Arsenal is now trying to strengthen it up and I believe that William Saliba could be a great addition to the current inefficient defence.
The French defender is young, tall and powerful and can also provide a good amount of creativity in the field. We hope that he plays in the same way as he does for his current club or even better and could actually live up to the saying “The next Raphael Varane”.
The Gunners shipped in 51 goals during their recent campaign and the urge to secure effective defensive recruits as a result is quite understandable. It is being reported that Arsenal have been highly impressed by the maturity shown by William Saliba at such an young age and after intensive scouting session over the entire season, Arsenal have earmarked him as someone best suited to their needs.
Signing of Saliba seems to be moulded just like how Arsenal secured Guendouzi’s services last summer to impressive effects and will look to replicate exactly that if not more by going for another low risk, high potential player in him. Irrespective of his young age, William Saliba certainly is a talent worth taking note of and Arsenal could do much worse than having a player of his potential flourish over the course of the next season.
Arsenal still has the chance to qualify for next season’s Champions League if they beat Chelsea in the Europa League final in Baku on May 29 and that could go a long way in securing their interest in the various ‘clear targets’ like William Saliba that they are already pursuing.
